Skiathos belongs to the Sporades islands in the northwest Aegean Sea. The island is well known for its breathtaking beaches, cosmopolitan atmosphere, natural character and wonderful nightlife. This heavenly Aegean island ticks all the boxes for a perfect getaway so why not consider holidays to Skiathos 2023?

Overview of the Island

Skiathos is the most evolved Sporades Island from the point of view of touristy facilities and offers great services, some wonderful accommodations and infrastructure. Skiathos Town, which is the port and capital of Skiathos, is the island’s only settlement, with the rest of the island consisting of pristine large beaches, churches, archaeological sites, souvenir shops, villas, restaurants, tavernas, and many vast hotel complexes.

Hands down the highlight of the island are its astonishing beaches. It has over 55 amazing beaches in total and the best ones are located south of the island. Among the most stunning are Koukounaries, Lalaria and Banana. The last-mentioned is particularly liked by the young crowds, thanks to the water sports facilities and famous beach parties.

The island’s legendary nightlife is another reason why Skiathos is so popular. Each summer, Skiathos is transformed into a party heaven, the best bars and clubs can be found in Skiathos Town and the fishing village of Ammoudia.
If you wish to sample the delicious local cuisine then head into Skiathos Town where the best tavernas and restaurants are located.

Here you will taste amazing local dishes and fish pulled out of the sea literally hours before being served. The island on the whole is ideal for those who love the great nightlife, delicious cuisine, wonderful beaches and entertainment, nevertheless, the crowded aspect of Skiathos doesn't take away the island's 190km long hiking trail network, secret valleys, quieter beaches, caves, sculpting rocks and small coves are the many gems one can find in Skiathos if you take time to explore.

Things to do

Skiathos Sea Caves
Situated near the beach of Lalaria, one of the most photographed beaches in Greece are two stunning sea caves, called Skotini and Galazia Lalaria. Both are located on the northern coast of the island and are the most famous sights of Skiathos. These two caves are regarded as nature's most extraordinary creations and are both accessible by boat. Visitors find these caves captivating and they are much preferred by swimmers and divers who enjoy the underground environment.

Bourtzi Town
Bourtzi is a small peninsula that separates the Skiathos port into two clear parts. It used to be a fort, which was built by the Gizi brothers who ruled over Skiathos back in 1200. Bourtzi was bordered by unassailable walls and there were two towers located to the left and right of the main gate. Archaeologists believe that inside the fort there used to be a church, the church of Agios Georgios, which was the guardian deity of the Venetians. At present, Bourtzi is a popular place for relaxation and recreation. The entire area is replete with stately pine trees and offers jaw-dropping views of the surroundings. There are numerous sites where one can still see the legacy of the past.
The beautiful Greek island of Skiathos has something for everyone. Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway, an adventure-filled escape, or just a fun beach day, Skiathos is the perfect destination for Greece holidays.
