A Bit About Me

I’m Nora Dunn (aka The Professional Hobo), one of the original Lifestyle Travel Bloggers, and I sold everything I owned in 2006 to travel full time. I traveled full time for 12 years, and while I now have a home base in Toronto, I continue to travel for about half of each year. I combine my expertise as a former Certified Financial Planner with my lifestyle travel experience to teach people how to travel full time in a financially sustainable way.

Specializing in slow travel, I have lived in and traveled through over 60 countries. My travel experiences range from sublime to absurd to downright terrifying. I survived three natural disasters, three tropical diseases (apparently these things come in threes), a near-fatal accident, passport theft, and more breakups than I’d care to admit to. I saved over $100,000 getting free accommodation around the world. I even apprenticed with a shaman for two years in Peru, and worked as a shaman’s assistant in Ecuador.

Through my immersive travel experiences, I have gained a unique insight into various locations and people, thus living out my lifelong dream of “hacking” into local cultures around the world. My writing and speaking provides equal doses of entertainment, inspiration, and instruction. And my financial expertise has dubbed me “The Finance of Travel Girl”.

Socially, you can find me hanging out on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIN, and you can see my amusing videos on YouTube.

My Favourite Travel Pictures

Travel is a way of being; a state of mind rather than an act unto itself. As long as I am in this world, I am traveling through it.

The Hidden Gems I’ve Found

“How good (or bad) a time we have is more about who we are with, what we’re doing, and how we’re feeling.”

Travel is contextual. My favourite places and hidden gems won’t be the same as yours, largely because each of us experiences a destination differently. How good (or bad) a time we have is more about who we are with, what we’re doing, and how we’re feeling than it is about the destination itself.

Besides, if I share my hidden gems with you, they won’t be hidden any more! You have to find your own. That’s part of the fun of travel.

My Dream Destinations

I don’t tend to choose my destinations; I let them choose me, usually in the form of a unique opportunity like volunteering or house sitting, visiting with friends, filming a TV show, etc. There are many places I would like to visit, but I will wait patiently for the right opportunity.
