YOUR 48 HOUR GUIDE: THINGS TO DO IN LISBON
Portugal’s capital Lisbon is a veritable delight waiting to be discovered. Tick off its most beautiful attractions on a memorable weekend city break.
Hiya, I’m Lauren! I love to write, so having a career that involves writing and editing inspiring content about some of the most amazing places around the world suits me perfectly. I love to travel, exercise and cook (either my own weird and wonderful recipes or chef-certified ones), and there’s nothing better than getting stuck into a good book. I also enjoy spending quality time with the people closest to me and having a good honest chat with them - preferably over coffee.
I’ve been lucky enough to travel with lots of people over the years, including friends, family and, most regularly, my partner. The thing that drives my travels? Definitely food. I plan on eating my way around the world, one bite at a time.
“I think it’s refreshing to have different types of holidays with different people. Beach holidays with friends, city trips with my partner, long-haul with the family - I’d happily do it all!”
Like most people, I have a passion for travelling. While I still have a LOT of places to tick off, what better way to pass the time than by writing about all of the destinations I have been to or am yet to visit?
As the former Content Manager at Teletext Holidays I used to be responsible for all of the digital content on the website, but my two favourite areas to work on were the destination guides and the travel blog. These pages provide the freedom to create inspiring content that will engage the reader, help them research the most exciting things to see and do on their next holiday or simply offer some exotic beach-themed escapism. I’d recommend taking up travel writing to any travel lover!
I’ve had a couple of favourite journeys to the States, for different reasons. One of my highlights was going to New York City with my immediate family as a birthday surprise for my mum - that city is everything it’s cracked up to be and then some. I’ve never walked so much in my life!
I went to Thailand in 2013. I travelled around Bangkok, Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Ko Phangan, Krabi and Koh Phi Phi for six weeks with my two best friends and can honestly say I had the time of my life. Buckets of rum cocktails aside (it’s fair to say I lost count of how many of those we consumed!), we had the chance to do some amazing things like spend time with elephants, take part in local cooking schools, scuba dive, tour the many temples and soak up the sights of beaches and islands on long-tail boat tours.
Portugal brings fond memories of holidaying in the Algarve as a child. Albufeira, Carvoeiro and Vilamoura are some of my favourite places in the region, each with amazing beaches and beautiful cobbled streets. We would head to Vilamoura’s Horseshoe Bay often in the evenings, as it’s packed with waterfront restaurants, lively bars and lots of stalls.
There’s no real theme or relevance as to what’s on my travel bucket list since I want to visit as many places as I can! I’d like to see more of Southeast Asia, such as Bali in Indonesia and the Philippines, because there is so much natural beauty there. I’d also like to visit Krakow in Poland because of its history, and I’ve always wanted to travel around Italy. I’d love to tick off the Cinque Terre, Amalfi Coast and Tuscany, which looks like the most beautiful destination. Plus, who am I kidding? Pizza and pasta are the way to my heart!
