MY BEST TRAVEL MEMORIES
From having lunch at a Sikh temple in India to feeling at home in Cuba, here are some of my favorite moments after 20 years of travel.
After studying, volunteering, and working her way around the world, I, along with Jose Martinez, launched the sustainable travel and lifestyle website A World to Travel in 2012. It’s a place to share unique experiences around the world, the great outdoors, and all things responsible tourism.
We have been featured in some of the world's largest print and TV media outlets including the BBC, National Geographic, Lonely Planet, and many more. In addition, we collaborate with other great travel outlets on a regular basis. More recently, A World to Travel has been named the most responsible travel blog of the year.
“Not all those who wander are lost.” – J.R.R. Tolkien
They are all on my blog! Just kidding. In all honesty, if I come across a true hidden gem these days I have to fight the internal debate of whether or not it is good to share it with the world. Over-tourism is real!
I spent a month island hopping in Indonesia with Jose in 2015 exploring Java, Bali, Flores, and the Gili Islands, which I found are true paradises on earth. Indonesian people are some of the kindest people I’ve come across and I cannot wait to go back and keep meeting interesting Indonesian humans. Next time around, I’ll take my time exploring other destinations in the country such as Raja Ampat - it’s been calling my name for a while and the diving looks unreal.
A country of great contrasts, I fell in love with how multicultural it is as well as with its food, history, and desert landscapes. I combined it with a trip to Jordan and, although crossing the border wasn’t the most straightforward thing ever, I’d definitely do it again.
As an architecture and civil engineering student, Dubai fascinated me since the moment I got there. I could only spend 10 days, but as it is a common layover destination for flights from Europe to Asia, I am sure at some point I will have the chance to spend a few more days in the UAE and its neighboring Middle Eastern destinations.
To be honest, I have no clue how things are going to be in a few months' time, but even if we’re not allowed to travel for a while, I could not complain. I've been privileged enough to travel more than most of this world's population will ever be able to travel, and that's something I don't take lightly.
For now, if I can visit my closest friends and family in Galicia (Spain) once the travel restrictions are lifted, I'd be the happiest girl on earth.
Going all the way from Western Europe to China by train, walking the Camino again, and biking my way around Central Europe are on my list next. They all can be done from where I am based without taking a single plane so I hope these dreams all come true soon!
