A Bit About Me

I’ve been a wanderer from day one. Some of my earliest memories are from Hong Kong, where my dad served in the Royal Navy. My family returned to the UK when I started school. From then on, my weekends and holidays as a pre-teen and teen were spent camping and caravanning.

It’s no surprise that exploring the great outdoors and new places are two of my biggest passions. Oh, and I love to write, which is how my blog came about.

I use Tin Box Traveller to share my family’s and my travel experiences with the aim to inspire other families to explore more. In the past seven years, we have been on more than 100 camping-style breaks across the UK and Europe, as well as a handful of cruises, city breaks and luxury resort holidays.

The Hidden Gems I’ve Found

“We’ve experienced plenty of wonderful, lesser-known places.”

I’m going to level with you and say that we don’t often go off the beaten track - but we’ve still experienced plenty of wonderful, lesser-known places.

Some gems we’ve found in the past few years include the Minack Theatre in Cornwall, the turquoise waters of Lake Kournas at the base of the Lefka Ori mountains in Crete and the granite caves of Devil’s Bay National Park in the British Virgin Islands.

My Dream Destinations

I have such a long list of places I’d love to visit, as does my husband - and my girls are starting to have ideas about places they’d like to go too. Our family travel bucket list includes Croatia, Portugal, Iceland, Socotra in Yemen, France, the USA and Egypt, as well as more of the Caribbean and Italy.
