As the second biggest city in Tunisia, Sousse is flooded with heritage and culture. However, it has managed to fuse this history with a generous sprinkle of modern appeal, to create a tourist hotspot that has a little bit of everything. Not only does it still boast the authentic old town, but it has some of the best beaches in Tunisia, and a buzzing nightlife to finish every day off with a bang.

Great Things to Do

Wander through UNESCO-listed streets or firmly plant yourself on the sweeping sands of the beach to soak up the sun or join in with the wind-surfers and jet-skiers.

Tick off the Sights

You can’t fully appreciate a stay in Sousse if you don’t stroll around the major sights that it is home to - and a day wandering this historic city is a must. The Great Mosque and the Sousse Ribat are iconic landmarks worth seeing, while the views that await you at the top of the hill where the Kasbah sits are snapshot-worthy.

Say Hi to the Animals at Friguia Park

Found between Sousse and Port El Kantaoui, Friguia Park is full of creatures from the animal kingdom. From lions and flamingos to cheetahs and sealions, the park aims to protect endangered species and provides a wonderful place for them to live. Kids can ride on camels and donkeys, and you can also swim with dolphins!

Experience the Sunday Market

The souks in Sousse operate every day, but the Sunday market is an experience in itself. It’s the day when the locals come out to grab bargains, and in amongst the ceramics, carpets and leathers, you’ll see haggling for camels! You may not be in the market for a humped beastie, but you can still pick up some great deals.

Discover the Catacombs

Heading underground into mass burial tombs may not be for everyone, but if you have an interest in the subject, these catacombs are a must. Only a few areas of this underground labyrinth are open to the public, but you can visit the Archaeological Museum afterwards, where you see some artefacts that have been excavated.

Getting Around

Taxis are readily available, but make sure you agree a price before you get in, to avoid arguments or being ripped off. Louages act like shared taxis, and can end up costing a fraction of the price of a normal taxi ride. Tuk-tuks and the road train are great fun if you want to travel to nearby Port El Kantaoui, as are horse-drawn carriages. If you want to explore further afield, car hire is ideal.

By Bus

Sousse has excellent connections, with a main bus station and several stops around the city. Travel isvery cheap and convenient, and bus is a great way of getting out and exploring the coast and beyond.

By Car

As it’s a busy city, driving within Sousse isn’t for the faint-hearted. Confidence is a must, but outside of the city, roads are relatively uncrowded and easy to navigate. Drive on the right hand side.
