Great Things to Do
Whether you’re attracted by the sights, the nightlife or the fantastic beaches on its doorstep, Faro is a perfect Portuguese haven for a summer break.
Shop in the Boutiques
Faro is full of gorgeous shops and bijou boutiques where you can splash some cash and treat yourself to some new holiday clothes or souvenirs. The Rua Santo Antonio and the Rua Francisco Gomes are two of the best streets in the city if you’re planning on letting loose your inner shopaholic, and the markets are also very popular.
Party Hard After Dark
As darkness blankets the city, the nightlife comes alive, especially during term time when Faro uni students add to the buzzing atmosphere. The Dux nightclub is a must if you want to strut your stuff in style, and there are plenty of bars, cafes and trendy spots in the city where you can sip cocktails till the early hours.
Spot Birds at the Ria Formosa Natural Park
It may be a city, but Faro is on the outskirts of a natural park, where birdwatchers and nature lovers will feel right at home. The scenery here is stunning, and as it’s protected, the beauty is here to stay. It’s a migration route for many species of birds, including flamingos and the rare purple swamphen, so take your camera!
Wander the Old Town
The historical old town, split into the Vila-Adentro and Mouraria, is simply delightful, and an easy way to lose several hours during your time in Faro. Wander beneath the three arches and cast your eyes over the intricate period architecture, or take a look around the mesmerising cathedral before stopping for a refreshing drink.
