Great Things to Do
With a long list of unique experiences in store, from diving in the reefs to exploring the nearby island of Cozumel, Playa is a playground for all.
Dive in Cozumel
Just a short ferry ride away from mainland Playa, you will find the beautiful island of Cozumel, which is not only a day-trippers paradise, but also one of the best dive sites on the planet. Whether you’re a newbie or you’ve had diving experience, the reefs and marine life around Cozumel are out of this world, and totally worth a dip.
Ride the Underground River in Xcaret
Just 5 minutes away from Playa del Carmen centre is the highly acclaimed Xcaret ecopark. Pronounced ‘eesh-caret’, it is home to a bucket list full of once-in-a-lifetime experiences, including snorkelling and cave exploration. However, if you want a really magical memory, floating along the underground river is a must!
Stroll Along 5th Avenue
Quinta Avenida, or 5th Avenue, is the main street that runs through Playa del Carmen, and the hub of activity for holidaymakers, from sun up until way past sundown. It’s completely pedestrianised, and is lined with a variety of restaurants, bars and shops to explore. If you’re after a night on the town, this is the place to be.
Head into the Caves at Rio Secreto
Just down the road from Playa, you will find the underground world of Rio Secreto, which is made up of a series of tunnels and caves, where dramatic stalactites and stalagmites touch. Wade, swim and walk through the cenote waters, to experience the beauty of this stunning nature reserve with the help of a professional guide.
