A truly delightful, family run, 3-star hotel just a stone's throw from the Bridge of Sighs, St. Mark's Square and the Doge's Palace, the Fontana Hotel has been in the same family for well over 40 years; nowadays run by the 3rd generation of the Stainer family. Located in the midst of one of Venice's many small, yet thriving, squares, the Fontana Hotel offers an informal hospitality in a pleasant and extremely friendly manner. All rooms are equipped with private bathroom, satellite TV, telephone and air-conditioning, and either overlook the the San Provolo or San Zaccaria squares. This is a traditional hotel with few contemporary furnishings; the atmosphere and ambience of the public areas is warm and inviting with antique furnishings, marble floors and traditional Venetian paintings. An extended continental breakfast is served downstairs adjacent to the cosy bar. Additionally, which can be quite rare in the small historic buildings of Venice, the hotel features a good-sized elevator, and guests should also note they don't need to cross any bridges when arriving by water bus. All in all, the Fontana offers extremely good value for money and comes thoroughly recommended.
