Sharm El Sheikh used to be nothing but a small and fairly insignificant Bedouin village, in a desert peninsula backed by rugged mountains. There was no mineral wealth, and it had no trading importance. Eventually it served as a naval base for the Egyptian navy, before Israeli occupants started to develop the area as a tourist resort back in the 60’s. Nowadays, Sharm El Sheikh is an extremely popular holiday destination, particularly with British tourists. It boasts a string of luxury resorts, some of the best diving spots in the world, breathtaking natural beauty and arguably one of the most interesting historical sites in the world in Mt. Sinai, where Moses is said to have received the Ten Commandments. There is also a wealth of fabulous beaches, and the sun burns brightly all year round, so Sharm El Sheikh is as good an option in winter as it is during peak summer holiday season. On top of all that, it’s easy to come by cheap Sharm El Sheikh holidays these days, and the flight time from the UK is only five and a half hours. All in all, “Sharm” ticks a lot of boxes.

Why book Sharm El Sheikh holidays?

    • Mount Sinai - Where Moses is said to have received the Ten Commandments. Go with a tour leaving in the early hours and you’ll be at the peak to witness the most incredible sunrise.
    • Ras Mohammed National Park - About 20 miles south of Sharm, this area has beautiful beaches, excellent snorkelling, a mangrove forest, and a saltwater lake.
    • The Blue Hole - This diving spot isn’t teeming with marine life or coral but remains incredibly popular with divers because of its notoriety as the most dangerous dive site in the world. Stay within your limits and it’s as safe as any other.
    • Dahab - Where you’ll find the Blue Hole. A good destination in itself, it’s been attracting backpackers and free-spirited types for years thanks to its laid back vibe and beauty.
    • Sharm Market - Sharm Al Maya is the town's souq (bazaar), where you’ll find traditional shisha pipes, jewellery, twinkling Arabic lamps, and lots of carvings and art pieces.
