Parc Astérix, France
This park is based on France's most celebrated cartoon character, Asterix the Gaul, and his battle against the invading Roman army. There are new rides every year at this park, which has already had more than two million visitors.
There are rollercoaster rides like Zeus's Thunder, Flight of Icarus and Menhir Express. There is also a druids' forest, a Roman army camp, a life-size Asterix village, and a fairground.

This park's sections are Castleland, My Town, Wild Woods, Lego Traffic, Duplo Gardens, Miniland, The Beginning and Imagination Centre. It has many rides, such as the Space Tower and the Sky Rider, and an Imagination Theatre with The Sound Sorcerers.
Miniland has animated models of European sights. Fairytales come alive on the Fairy Tale Brook Boat ride. Fly a helicopter at the Whirlybirds or see ninjas fighting samurai at My Town Harbour.

This site, on the German, French and Swiss borders, is made up of 14 areas - Adventure land, Austria, Children's World, England, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Holland, Portugal, Russia, Scandinavia, Spain and Switzerland.
One of the many attractions is Castillo Alcazar. This medieval Spanish castle has jousting knights, pirate ships, rollercoasters, canals, gardens, adventure rafts, and plane and train rides.

Gardaland, Italian Lakes
This is Italy's biggest theme park, on the shores of Lake Garda, near Verona. It has an ever-changing theme, whether it's a month of Far-Eastern culture, or celebration of Mediterranean dance.
Attractions include jungle rapids, laser shows, medieval parties, flamenco dancers, pirate ships, firework displays, Wild West shows, acrobats, the Four Musketeers and lots more. MTV regularly broadcasts from here, and there is also a Flying Island.

This huge park south of Barcelona is one of the glitziest and best-run parks in Europe. It has the huge financial backing of Universal Studios and is split into five worlds: Mediterrania, Polynesia, Mexico, Far West and China.
The jewel is the Sea Odyssey ride, based on a Captain Nemo-type adventure. There are rapids, Chinese puppet shows, pirate rides, fiestas, a Wild West saloon and an American Indian show.

Six Flags, Holland
Six Flags, an American giant of the theme park world, has dozens of parks across the US and more across Europe. Six Flags Holland, formerly called Walibi Flevo, is Europe's rollercoaster capital and has 30 new shows and attractions.
Attractions include Superman: The Ride, Robin Hood, La Via Volta, Flying Dutchman Gold Mine, Double Inverter, Tornado and G-Force. The park caters for families, children and older visitors.

Alton Towers has themed days throughout the year and special displays put on at Halloween, Easter and Christmas.

This is an environmentally-friendly theme park that specialises in aquatic mammals. It has a planetarium, an amusement park, a zoo, a dolphinarium and an aquarium.
Attractions include rides The Flying Carpet, the Corkscrew, the Superbowl and Hurveli, and an aqua show with performing dolphins. Then there is the Nasinneula, the highest observation tower in Scandinavia.

This is Italy's most exciting park. It is a five-centre area with a movie theme. There are Dove Vita Studios, La Citta di Bimbopoli, Motorworld, La Vecchia and Adventureland.
The park has a casino, shows and restaurants. Rides include Crazy Loop, Tornado (1km long), Hurricane and a video games centre. There are also adventure rides like Rio Bravo, Labyrinth, Dinosaurs and Niagara.
