Mendenhall Glacier, Alaska, United States
Juneau, Alaska's capital, is the jumping off point for visiting several glaciers in the area. One of the best known is the Mendenhall, just 13 miles outside the city. From its source, the Juneau Ice Field, the glacier flows some 12 miles.
Other interesting glaciers in the area are Lemon Creek, Herbert Glacier and Eagle Glacier and a flight is a great way to see the lot.

Bungle Bungle National Park, Western Australia
In the ruggedly beautiful wilderness area of the Kimberley are the Bungle Bungles - a 3000 sq. m park with thousands of huge beehive shaped rock towers in orange and black stripes. There are also an assortment of fantastic gorges, including Echidna Chasm in the north and Cathedral Gorge in the south.
There's restricted access to some of the northern gorges and so the best way to see them is by air.

Victoria Falls, Zambia
The mighty Zambezi river drops some 400 feet over the edge of the falls and the roaring of the waters can be heard from 20 miles away, while the spray is visible from ten.

Masada, Israel
The ancient hilltop fortress of Masada has great views over the Judean desert and the Dead Sea. This high plateau was first fortified by the Jews in around 100 BC and eventually became a retreat for Herod the Great.
The site wasn't excavated until 1963 and if you land here you can see the remains of a number of buildings including Herod's palace, his luxury bathroom and the oldest synagogue in the world.

Machu Picchu, Peru
The famous lost city of the Incas is perched 600 metres up on the spine of on a granite peak surrounded by jungle and is a good day's hike on the short Inca Trail, so arriving by helicopter is a good option.

This active volcano is around 100,000 years old, 1216m high and one of five mountains in the Aso-gogaku chain on the island of Kyushu. And it still erupts - as recently as 1979 three visitors were killed. Take a helicopter ride and peer down into the boiling lake inside the crater and watch the white smoke puffing from the top.
