Beach Beauty Tips
When you are there: Beach beauty tips
Many holidaymakers claim they're too busy to try and get into shape before they peel off and bare all on the beach.
If you want to flaunt rather than fret about your beach body, read on for our No Blah Blah Guide to looking on the beach compiled by Channel 4 style guru Gok Wan.
According to the Teletext Holidays poll of 2,000 people, the pressure to look good has led over a third of British men to admit they dread stripping off when they're on holiday.
The survey also reveals that most women aspire to have the curves of I'm A Celebrity star Mylene Klass, whose famous bikini-clad jungle showers led to a high profile swimwear advertising campaign with Marks and Spencers.
In a bid to get the perfect beach bod, nearly a quarter of holidaymakers spend up to £250 on summer essentials from sun cream to spray tans before they even step on the plane.
TV presenter Gok Wan advises:
• Tanned skin always looks slimmer and sexier. Before you go on holiday, apply a fake tan three times a week for at least a month and you'll have a beautiful tan by the time the you step on the plane.
• Don't be afraid to accessorise swimwear or beachwear. It can take the attention away from problem areas and big jewellery makes your body appear smaller.
• To minimise packing, use swimwear and swimwear accessories as daywear. Combine your beachwear and daywear together - for instance sarongs, sundresses, shorts and tees are all good cover-ups and acceptable daywear.
• Don't be afraid to use heels with swimwear. They improve posture, lengthen the leg and make you look and feel slimmer. This summer, wedges are big and they’re perfect for this. Unlike stilettos, you won't sink into the sand.
• For all body conscious women who are afraid to go out in their swimwear, almost every woman obsesses about at least one part of their body. Remember that and then get on with enjoying yourself.
• Apart from protecting your eyes, sunglasses are an instant confidence boost, adding allure regardless of what you’re wearing. Oversize film star sunnies for women and the classic Ray-ban wayfarer shape for men are failsafe choices.
• Beach tailoring is a big look. The more flamboyant your swimwear, the more attention you'll draw to yourself. If you’re uncertain, keep things clean, sharp and quiet on the pattern front.
• To achieve a quick beach-to-night look, buy a pair of wide leg, pyjama-style pants worn with flip flops and a linen shirt or t-shirt.
• To avoid burning on the beach, don't be afraid to use hats. Panamas are big this season and are available on the high street, making them affordable.
• Grooming for men and women is essential: consider a manicure, pedicure, and waxing to remove unwanted hair. A groomed body will always look more confident.
