Your Guide to Last Minute Holidays in Greece
Your Guide to Last Minute Holidays in Greece
Getting There and Around Greece
Do not let travel put you off your late deal to Greece as it can be made extremely simple. There are frequent flights from all major UK airports that can be booked last minute and will touch down at the most popular Greek holiday destinations.
If you are going on a package, transfers will generally be pre-arranged from the airport to your chosen late deal resort. If you wish to explore Greece then it might be best to hire a car, these are available upon arrival at the airport, alternatively there are taxis and a bus service, the bus services however do have questionable reliability.
Beaches in Greece
With your late deal from Teletext you could soon find yourself relaxing in the Greek sunshine on one of its lovely beaches. If beaches are your thing then you’ve certainly picked the right destination, the strong sun, open sands and turquoise clear water make Greek beaches some of the best in Europe. On the mainland Halkadiki is a firm favourite, while islands like Rhodes, Kos, Corfu and Crete all have numerous popular beaches. Many of the most popular resorts are spread around these islands and places such as Faliraki, Lindos, Kos Town, Kavos, Gouvia, Ipsos and Malia can be noisy and crowded in peak months.
There are also quieter beaches to be found occupied by less tourists, they are usually off the beaten track or only accessible by boat, so make sure to ask your resorts reception for details of the closest hidden beach.
Sightseeing in Greece
If it's history and archaeology you're after, then Athens is the destination for you. Athens has some monumental sights to be seen such as the magnificent ancient Acropolis, Parthenon and National Archaeological Museum.
It's possible to visit another island in a day, depending on where you are.
From Mykonos you can visit the ancient archaeological site of Delos, a 20-minute boat ride away, where the remains of an ancient city - including mosaics and lion statues - can be found.
If your late deal takes you to Kos then it's only 20 minutes on the hydrofoil to Bodrum in Turkey, with services running daily between May and September. From northeastern Corfu, you can visit Albania, a mere two miles away, with its villages, ancient sites and bustling markets.
