Last Minute Holidays in The Caribbean

Your Guide to Last Minute Holidays in The Caribbean

Getting There and around The Caribbean

Don’t let transport affect your late deal; there are plenty of last minute flights to be booked to the Caribbean. There are cheap direct flights from London to Caribbean destinations including Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, the Bahamas, Barbados and the Cayman Islands. Low-cost enterprise BMI has flights to Barbados and Antigua.

Upon arrival taxi’s and buses provide the easiest transport, however buses are quite unpredictable. For those wishing to hop between islands there are airline services catering for that need.

Beaches in The Caribbean

Your late deal could find you lying on one of the many beautiful beaches the Caribbean has to offer. Such as Pink Sand Beach in the Bahamas is so-called because red plankton's mixed in with the sand. Crane Beach on Barbados has clear water and white sands which both make for the perfect swimming combination; Varadero, in Cuba (on the Straits of Florida) has about 20km of clean beaches and clear waters and is near to lively Havana.

Jamaica offers its own array of spectacular beaches such as Negril and Seven Mile beach. Tulum (overlooked by Mayan ruins), Playa del Carmen and Cozumel can be found in Mexico, while the bustling Accra Beach is located on the south coast of Barbados. This is not even close to doing justice to the amount of beautiful beaches found in the Caribbean, so why not go and explore yourself, you will not be disappointed!

Sightseeing in The Caribbean

If visiting Barbados on your late deal why not join a National Trust hike, hire a horse in Mullins Bay or head to capital Bridgetown for its nightlife.
Head to Grenada and St Lucia for rainforest attractions, to Tobago for diving, and to Antigua for superb beach resorts. Twitchers will love Trinidad and history buffs will be drawn to Antigua's many colonial forts.

Head for Mount Coubrail Estate, a coconut and cocoa plantation on the mainland from St Lucia, or nearby Pigeon Island. In Nassau go on a boat trip to the Exuma Cays or head to the Buccoo Reef from Tobago.
If you're on St Kitts, head for the volcanic peaks of Mt Liamuiga, or head to the arid interior if you're on Aruba.

Eating and Nightlife in The Caribbean

Booking your late deal now could find you just days away from being in the party of your life time. With such fun locals the Caribbean is the best place to be for partying so make sure you pack your dancing shoes!

You'll predominantly find reggae, merengue, jazz and even rock music on offer. If you're after English-style pubs, Barbados is well supplied. Or you could enjoy a reggae and rum sunset cruise.

Partying is endemic on the Dominican Republic and Jamaica but research your night spot as some can get quite rough. In Havana it's all about salsa and tangos. Join the locals in an all-night party in Vedado or La Habana Vieja.

In Mexico and Cuba, look for dishes strongly influenced by chillies and peppers.

Shopping and Family Attractions

Surprise your loved one by bringing them home a little taster of the Caribbean from your late deal holiday. All the islands have excellent alternative shopping with many vibrant colours and soft materials. Mexico has superb clothing, jewellery and leather bags - head to the markets or smaller villages. In Cuba, it's Havana for its markets in La Habana Vieja and the Gran Teatro de la Habana, and St Martin and St Thomas are particularly good for duty-free shopping.

If shopping and the beach aren’t enough to keep you occupied there are family activities offered at most resorts. Water sports are in large supply here too, with qualified instructors at the resorts. If this is not enough there are regular cruise journeys around the island some with glass bottoms so the beautiful underwater world can be seen.
